Chemistry 232A

Thermodynamics and Introduction to Statistical Mechanics

Fall 1995

Lecture: MWF 10:00 - 10:50 AM, PSCB 220
Discussion: F 12:00 - 12:50 PM, PS 188

Instructor: Christopher J. Grayce
Office: PS 580C
Phone: 824-7750

This course is about the fundamental theoretical structure of thermodynamics and (part of) equilibrium statistical mechanics, and is intended to help the advanced student develop his or her intuition about them. The emphasis is therefore on the underlying general principles of each, rather than on the manipulation of equations. The student will be expected to be already familiar with undergraduate thermodynamics and statistical mechanics at the level of Chemistry 130A or 131A.
