Use WebsiteCopier via WebsiteManager
Quick Start Primer Guides: Students, Instructors & TAs

General Information

Overview

WebsiteCopier is a WebsiteManager tool that allows instructors and authorized assistants to reuse existing EasyWebsite or AdvancedWebspace websites from academic terms, instead of creating a new one.

Any content on a website can potentially be used without permission. Website visitors can easily save individual pages, images, files and even entire websites. Although easy to do, using content without permission is a violation of copyright law.

Instructors:

Access to WebsiteManager includes access to WebsiteCopier. If an assistant has access to WebsiteManager for your class, that assistant could later make a copy of the class website and use it for another assistant or instructor class.

If you are co-managing a website with other instructors or assistants, we strongly recommend discussing your expectations regarding ownership and content control. If you would be happy to have assistants use content later for their own class websites, let them know. If you do not want them to use your content for any other purpose, tell them directly and consider revoking WebsiteManager access at the end of the quarter, using AssistantsLearn More.

If you build a class website, you may wish to restrict access and/or include clear information on the ownership of website materials. Visitors may mistakenly believe that content is freely available for their use in other contexts. Clear and concise information can significantly reduce unauthorized content use.

For more information on restricting access to your website, see:

For additional resources on copyright, see:

Assistants:

When using EEE's WebsiteManager, remember that copyright restrictions apply. Access to WebsiteManager includes access to WebsiteCopier, which allows EasyWebsite or AdvancedWebspace websites to be copied easily.

Just because an instructor gives you WebsiteManager access does not mean that instructor has given you consent to reuse his or her class website content.

If you wish to reuse any content that you do not own exclusively, always speak with the original author or owner of the material first. Otherwise, you may be violating copyright law.

Everyone:

For help with free, easy-to-understand copyright licenses, visit Creative Commons, a non-profit organization which provides helpful copyright information and flexible free licenses.
