Skills & Qualifications

Candidates must have:

  • Strong understanding of the fundamentals of computer science and software engineering
  • Real-world experience in front-end and back-end web application development
  • Working knowledge of JavaScript, PHP, and HTML/CSS
  • Experience writing relational SQL queries
  • Experience working with source code version control such as Git
  • Experience working within a web framework such as Symfony2
  • Familiarity with UNIX/Linux
  • Ability to maintain a positive team attitude and demonstrate professional behavior
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Full-time UCI student status

Preferred

  • Experience working with Symfony2, Silex, and AngularJS
  • Experience using LESS or SASS/SCSS

Applicants must be able to provide code samples and/or a public code repository (such as GitHub) that includes the applicant's own sample commits. Code samples must be web development related.

Description

As an Advanced Student Web Developer, the candidate will be working with experienced software developers to build and maintain web-based tools programmed with PHP, Javascript, MySQL, and other technologies.

The candidate should be prepared to work collaboratively with the full development team. Strong communication and cooperation between team members through the design, development, implementation, and quality assurance phases are essential to this position.

This is a position that will provide the candidate with many opportunities to expand his or her skill set and gain valuable work experience that can be used inside or outside the University.

Quality Assurance & Technical Writing Student

Required

Description

The candidate will be beta testing web applications and reviewing and updating documentation on a range of instructional web applications, including EEE, EEE Scout, and EaterEvals in an Agile software development environment.

The candidate should be prepared to approach web applications from a detail-oriented perspective, thoroughly confirming expected functionality and testing unexpected behavior as well. To do this, the candidate must show creativity in anticipating the actions of various users at various levels of comfort with computers and web use. The candidate will collaborate closely with full time Quality Assurance (QA) staff on development of test plans, performance of tests, documentation of outcomes, and verification of issue resolution.

Candidate will need to take thorough and detailed notes, including annotated screenshots where applicable, and be prepared to review and discuss all observations, errors, and suggestions with the tools' developers.

The candidate should be prepared to create and maintain HTML and Markdown documents including user documentation and other documentation and reports as assigned. The candidate will work directly with the team's programmers, designers, and instructional technology specialists to understand features in development and prepare documentation, tutorials, and other support materials. The candidate will capture and manipulate screen-shots using image editing software.

In addition to exercising the skills with which the candidate enters the position, he or she should anticipate training in new areas as necessary. This is a position that will provide the candidate with many opportunities to expand his or her skill set, and gain valuable work experience.
