Date: April 23, 2014
Time: 9:30- 11 am
Location: Social Science Tower (SST), Room 104

The Google Apps @ UCI suite of tools (specifically word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations) runs in a web browser, and doesn’t require users to buy or install software.

Google Docs allows you access your documents from any Internet-connected computer — and we’re finding that for some users it has significant advantages over Microsoft Office products. Why? In our always-connected, just-in-time world, Google Docs offers effective real-time collaboration capabilities. In this workshop we’ll explore how Google Docs can work for you in collaborative projects, both in and outside of of the classroom.

We will introduce and build on Google productivity basics using other tools in the Google Apps @ UCI suite. Understand how to share schedules and take advantage of advanced calendaring functionality. Create a quiz or survey that collects data in a shared system. Automate quiz grading. Conduct virtual office hours.

Audience Response Clickers - Making Lectures Interactive

  3. I can connect iClicker responses to an assignment in EEE Gradebook
  4. A new generation of iClickers is coming soon to UCI

The correct answer is - all of the above! Audience response at UCI means we have equipment available to collect responses from handheld devices purchased by the students. These devices (commonly called "clickers") enable students to respond to a question by pressing one of the keys on the clicker, much like using a TV remote control. The instructor determines when students may use the clickers and can optionally show a histogram of student votes at the end of each response period on the projection screen.

To participate, students will need to buy an audience response clicker. These are inexpensive, and a student only has to buy one, because they will use the same clicker in any UCI class that uses the technology. When the clicker is purchased, the student visits a website to register their device's serial number so that they can receive credit for using it in classes.
