The Game Design of STARCRAFT II: Designing an E-Sport

Abstract:
Designing an e-sport carries its own special challenges. The game has to be not only fun to play, but also fun to watch. The core design values of modern sports all feed into creating a game that can be played alone but can also be a live sporting event. Ultimately the decision to make an e-sport can have ripple effects that challenge developers on every aspect of the game, from user interface to the game's story.

Bio:
Dustin Browder has been a game designer for over 15 years and started working on Real Time Strategy Games in 1999 at Westwood Studios. He is currently a Game Director for Blizzard Entertainment, working on StarCraft II.
